Through patient management and Health-information systems, medical documentation has consolidated itself as a discipline and its presence and expansion is currently indisputable.

The main purpose of this programme is to guarantee acquisition of the necessary knowledge and skills permitting professionals in medical documentation and health-information systems, through the documentation services, to develop their function more effectively. Welfare processes are increasingly complex, and along with knowledge of communication and information technology, these involves the ability to manage healthcare-information systems that must be homogeneous, reliable and sufficient.

The programme is based on identifying the basic concepts and tools needed to manage medical information, both curative and preventative, and considers all uses of information: clinical practice, health planning, health-centre and service management, training, and the functions and abilities that professionals wishing to work in this field must be able to develop.

This course of study aims at consolidating professional competence, and is designed and structured as an itinerary, simultaneously allowing the training of other professionals and also the possibility to take modules independently.
