"The ECIU is like an Erasmus, but shorter"
Gemma Vinyeta, student of the Faculty of Communication Studies at the UAB, participated in the Linköping Creathon that took place in June 2024, a three-day meeting organised by the ECIU, the UAB's European alliance. Students from all over Europe worked together to solve the challenge of building the digital city of tomorrow and improving the life of the inhabitants of Linköping, Sweden, and Enschede, the Netherlands. Gemma highlights the experience as an opportunity to meet people, learn new working methodologies and immerse oneself in a new culture, similar to when participating in an Erasmus programme.

What does the ECIU represent to you?
The ECIU is an organisation working with universities across Europe and it offers meetings in which international students can meet, work together and solve different types of challenges.
How was it to participate in the Linköping Creathon?
-At the Linköping Creathon we were asked to improve the city's digital services and also those of the city of Enschede, in the Netherlands. We had to think of how we could make the services more efficient, and at teh same time, get the city's young people involved in the improvement of their city.
What would you say to a UAB student thinking about signing up to one of the ECIU activities?
I would say that not many people know what ECIU is about, but that it is worth giving it an opportunity and learning about what it has to offer. If you like travelling and meeting new people, you will definitely enjoy this experience.
If you were to describe the ECIU in a few words, which would they be?
I would say it is an intercultural journey and learning experience.
What do you think you have gained by participating in an ECIU University event?
I think I have made many friends, I learned to work as a team and I also discovered many things about Sweden.
What was the best part about the Linköping Creathon?
The best part was meeting people from all over the world. I think what I liked best was the welcome barbeque, because at the beginning we didn't know each other and that helped us become friends. Everyone was very nice and tried to talk to everyone else.
Would you repeat the experience?
Yes, I would love to repeat the experience because it was like being on an Erasmus programme, but shorter. I had already participated in the Erasmus programme and it was an incredible experience, and I found many similarities between the two.
