Master description

The syllabus for the Master's Degree in Advanced Biotechnology, detailed below, provides two possible areas of specialisation:

  • Industrial Biotechnology
  • Molecular Biotechnology and Therapeutics

The master’s degree consists of 33 credits taken by all students, regardless of the chosen area of specialisation. These are the following modules: Synthetic Biology, Systems and Metabolic Engineering; Microbial Biotechnology, and Professional and Research Placements, in addition to the 9 credits of the master’s degree dissertation. For the specialisation in Industrial Biotechnology, the module on Applied Biocatalysis and Biotransformations (9 credits) is obligatory; for the specialisation in Molecular Biotechnology and Therapeutics, the module on the Function of Biomolecules in Health and Disease (9 credits) is obligatory. All other modules are optional. Students choose one of the four available modules based on their chosen area of specialisation and on their own educational and training-based interests.
