The Centenary of the birth of Doctor Josep Laporte i Salas
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Doctor Josep Laporte i Salas, the Josep Laporte Library located in the Casa Convalescència, in the modernist grounds of the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, has organized a bibliographic exhibition to illustrate the career of this doctor born in Reus and who demonstrated throughout his life a great commitment to science, the Catalan language and culture.
The exhibition consists of a small selection of books accompanied by texts that expose the work of Dr. Josep Laporte as a doctor, politician and academic.

Doctor Josep Laporte i Salas was born in Reus on March 18, 1922. Throughout his life he maintained an intense activity in the academic and scientific field. At the university level, Doctor Josep Laporte taught as Professor of Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona between 1970 and 1976. In 1976 he assumed the position of Rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
It is also worth noting his contribution in the political sphere as Minister of Health and Social Security (1980-1988). Later he held the positions of Minister of Education (1988-1992) and Commissioner for Universities and research (1993-1995). His government action in these areas contributed to implementing a new health system, promoting the modernization of the university system and laid the foundations for a Catalan scientific policy.
