The 2030 Agenda and UNESCO SDGs are setting a trend in relation with the key actions to be taken in the immediate future, if we are to commit to a socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable planet.
Libraries have always played a relevant role in terms of social integration by guaranteeing access to information and knowledge for citizens. The 2014 Lyon Declaration by the IFLA, gave a boost to consolidating the commitment of libraries towards the goal that the whole society, without exclusions, can empower and defend their civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.
With the COVID-19 pandemic situation, this strategy took place in all libraries, especially those linked to the education sector. In this sense, the Catalan public universities, through the coordination of CSUC, proposed in 2020 a manifesto that promoted 10 axes of work, among which the alignment with the 2030 Agenda was underlined.
UAB has long had a Sustainable Campus Plan that has provided the necessary conditions for the development of sustainability initiatives in our academic environment. The UAB libraries network has participated in many of the actions carried out, which we want to show with the aim of raising awareness about the need to join forces to generate a viable planet with greater social justice, which we must necessarily build together.
We invite you to consult the page Sustainability in UAB libraries and follow the actions through the hashtag #odsbibliotequesUAB on our Twitter.
