Photographic exhibition “Nobody's eyes”

Exposició fotogràfica “Els ulls de ningú”
At the Humanities Library

17/01/2020

Photographers Eduard Alegre and Joan Vera exhibit their project “Nobody’s eyes” on the ground floor of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives.

In authors’ words, “this exhibition is born from our wish to show a reality with which we coexist every day but we too often ignore intentionally. Photography serves us as a perfect tool for articulating different stories that embody the most forgotten and harsh part of society. Stories starring people with whom we share space but have become invisible to our eyes.”

Eduard Alegre focuses on everyday life of undocumented African immigrants. Images taken in Barcelona and its outskirts, in which the protagonists do what is necessary to survive: from collecting scrap to peddling or illegal fishing.

Joan Vera portrays the reality of people born in Catalonia who, for different reasons, have been forced to live on the street. In the heart of Barcelona, tourism and fashion stores contrast with the harsh existence of those that appear in the photographs.

“We just want to express ourselves, and try to sensitize, from our point of view and as members of this society, making visible some of the problems that many people suffer […]. We want to do our part, to help raise awareness and convey that ALL can do more for a fairer and more supportive society.”

The exhibition has been lent by AFOCER (Agrupació Foto-Cine Cerdanyola- Ripollet). Visit it until 28th february
