To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II (May 8, 1945) and the liberation of Nazi concentration camps, the Social Sciences Library presents the exhibition Women in Ravensbrück, which will be on display in the lobby on floor 0 from April 29 to June 27.

Ravensbrück, located 90 km from Berlin, was the largest concentration camp in the Nazi system created exclusively for imprisoning women.

The exhibition tells the terrible story of the camp, but it is especially a tribute to the Catalan and Spanish women who were deported there and endured its infernal conditions. We can see the life trajectory of some of these women, most of whom were arrested for participating in the French Resistance and who became examples of courage and determination in defending the values of freedom, peace, and justice.

The design and content of the panels of the in-person exhibition have been developed by the Amical de Ravensbrück. In addition, the Social Sciences Library has prepared a bibliographic exhibition displayed in the showcase-exhibitors at the library’s entrance on floor 0, as well as a virtual exhibition that includes the content developed by the Amical de Ravensbrück, along with a historical introduction and selection of related bibliography.

In relation with the exhibition, the Social Sciences Library and the European Documentation Centre, with the support of the Institute of European Studies, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EUGLOB, and the Center for the Study of Dictatorships and Democracies, have organized a free event: "From Ravensbrück to Paris. From the End of World War II to the Schuman Declaration," which will take place on May 15 in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Law, UAB.
