Bioscience student Ona Navarro wins the 17th Ibero-American Biology Olympics

The 17th Ibero-American Biology Olympics which took place at the University of Havana, Cuba, ended on 13 September. Four students from different Spanish universities obtained exceptional results in the competitions and were awarded three silver medals and one bronze medal. Among the winners was Ona Navarro Roca, student of the UAB Faculty of Biosciences, who won a silver medal.

UAB student Ona Navarro Roca won a silver medal in the Ibero-American Biology Olympics.

Ona Navarro Roca, who finished her upper secondary education in the Escola Sant Gervasi Cooperativa in Mollet del Vallès and who this year begins her university studies at the Faculty of Biosciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, was one of the four representatives of Spain in this scientific competition. The other members of the team were Raúl Muñiz Martínez (Oviedo), Julia García Soto (Múrcia), and Diego Álvarez Álvarez (Valladolid), who also exceeded in the competitions and were awarded two silver medals and one bronze medal.

The competition, which began on Monday 9 September, included 45 students from 13 Ibero-American countries, who had to solve practical and theoretical problems in fields such as Zoology, Biochemistry and Botanics. The objective of these olympics is to foster young people's interest in biology and scientific research.

Next year, the Ibero-American Biology Olympics will be held in Colombia.

Within
